Women who smoke have a faster decline in lung function than men.

Although women smoke less than men overall, for those who continue to smoke after the menopause, their lungs may deteriorate quicker than men of a similar age. Looking at a number of research studies on this, women's lung function deteriorates more quickly than men, and they are likely to become short of breath sooner.This is more evidence to encourage women to give up smoking at the menopause if they are still smoking by then.
