Depression may be linked to the onset of the menopause.
01 June 2006
A research team from the USA followed a group of women through the menopausal years. Although none of the women had depression at the start, for those who did develop depression, they were 2-3 times mors likely to be going through the menopausal transition than to be premenopausal. The depression was also related to changes in hormone levels. More research is needed to determine if the depression continues on after the menopause.
