Women who sleep poorly tend to put on more weight.
01 July 2006
The large American Nurses Health Study looked at nearly 70,000 women over a 10 year period. For those women who only slept for 5 hours per night, they were more likely to become obese than the women who slept 7 hours or more. On average, the women who slept less were heavier at the start of the study period, and put on more weight. The difference did not appear to be realated to differences in diet, but could be related to differences in metabolic rate.
